Steve and Kelly Paxos began serving Canton exceptional Greek and Mediterranean food in 2001 at the Cleveland Ave location now managed by their son Lambrose. Steve was formerly majority owner in the Canton Invaders indoor soccer team but realized he had a desire to bring great food to the town he called home but at a price everyone could afford. He and Kelly also wanted to be sure they made everything form scratch according to old world Greek recipes handed down in their families as well as the families of two of their chefs. Parthena (who handles the bulk of the amazing pastries) and George (who handles everything else) bring a combined experience of over 100 years all by themselves. This experience highlights a tradition of incredible food that simply can't be matched anywhere else in Northeast Ohio.

            With a name like Papa Gyros you know the gyros have to be good. In fact, the gyros served here are on the order of perfection. The meat is the real mixture of beef and lamb that makes a gyro, well, a gyro. You also won't find any lettuce on a Papa Gyros gyro. Steve's belief is lettuce is used as filler and doesn't look right in a gyro. The only thing he wants filling his gyros are meat, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce. The result is the perfect gyro, the way Steve's ancestors meant them to be, piled high with meat, loaded with amazing aroma and incredible taste, sitting on a bed of diced tomatoes, onions and tzatziki on top of a perfectly baked pita. You will not find a better gyro anywhere. The fact that you can get something of this quality and size for under $6 still has me pinching myself.

            Gyros, while one of the specialties of the house, are not the only thing on Papa Gyros' menu. They offer a full line of Greek and Mediterranean fare that will delight any palette. Fresh seafood, Lamb Shanks and chops, fresh salads and of course those amazing Greek desserts we all know and love adorn a menu full of tradition Greek favorites that has something that will please everyone in your party. You will all walk away with a new favorite dish and restaurant after your visit to Papa Gyros.

            The décor helps make the meal even that much better. With a Neo-Greco Classical feel featuring columns, great colors and amazing art on the walls depicting Greek history you feel transported to Greece itself for a dining experience you will crave time and time again. The staff adds to the atmosphere with their friendly attitude, promptness and menu knowledge that is rare in restaurants today. My server, Anne-Marie had a smile every time she came to the table and could answer every question I threw at her. The entire staff is trained to be the same way and they all eat there regularly, always a good sign for the rest of us!
